From Art Class to Metalworking: How I Found My Passion for Jewelry

After that first taste of creativity in high school, I knew I wanted to pursue something artistic; I wasn’t exactly sure what that would look like. College felt like a new beginning, a second chance to dive deeper into art and explore my creative side. I signed up for every art class I could and was determined to find a path that truly felt like my own.

In those early college days, I tried everything—from filmmaking to sculpturing and designing. Art gave me a way to express myself - a way to process and understand the world around me. It was when I took a jewelry metalsmithing class that I truly felt that I could take my art to the next level. Working with silver brought a whole new energy. The process of shaping, hammering, and refining each piece felt natural, as if I’d finally found a medium that could reach on a whole new level.

Coming up ideas for metal was a challenge at first, but it was a challenge I loved. The precision, focus, and attention to detail required felt rewarding in a way I hadn’t experienced with other forms of art. I would spend hours perfecting elements of a piece. Often times, I would engulf myself into a project where nothing else mattered. The craft demanded my full attention, and each piece I created carried a piece of my story.

As I continued exploring jewelry making , my instructors began to notice my ability to make unique pieces out of simple ideas. They encouraged me to experiment, to try new techniques, and to push the boundaries of what I could create. Their support fueled my confidence, and I started to see that this wasn’t just a class or a hobby—this was a calling. Metalsmithing was more than just art; it was a way to transform raw materials into something meaningful that others could connect with.

Through these experiences, I began to see jewelry as more than a form of self-expression; it was a way to tell stories and capture moments. Every bracelet, necklace, and ring I created represents a part of me — a statement of resilience, growth, and the lessons I’d learned along the way.

Finding my passion for jewelry was a pivotal moment in my journey. It gave me a sense of purpose and direction. It showed me that I could use my creativity to make an impact. This passion became the foundation of my brand, guiding every design and every decision I’ve made since.

Thank you for following along on this journey. In the next blog, I’ll share the challenges and obstacles I faced in building my skills and developing my unique style, and how those experiences helped shape the brand I’m creating today.

Sincerely,

Elias
